6. Crohn’s disease
Organ: Small intestine (?)
Description:
We can see the “creeping fat” phenomenon, where mesenterial fat creeps along the part of the intestine that is not covered by mesentery.
On the right part of the prep can we see a portion where the lumen is small, showing stenosis.
In the opened part on the right can we see that the mucosa has a cobblestone-like appearance
Diagnosis: Crohn disease
Causes:
- Western diet
- Genetic factors
Theory:
Cobblestone appearance and creeping fat are characteristic findings for Crohn disease. Stenosis is a common complication.
