5. Pyloric carcinoma
Organ: Pylorus, duodenum
Description:
The pylorus is whitish, fibrotic and diffusely thickened.
Diagnosis: Carcinoma pylori
Risk factors:
- Alcohol
- Smoking
- Epstein Barr virus
- Intestinal metaplasia
Theory:
The pathogenesis is similar to that of linitis plastica, the only difference here being that only the pylorus is affected and not the whole stomach. This morphology is also due to desmoplastic neostroma after a diffuse-type pyloric cancer.
Pyloric cancer has the possibility to cause pyloric stenosis.
