Increased intracranial pressure
Increased intracranial pressure (ICP) is lethal. Normal ICP is < 10 – 15 mmHg. Therapeutic options:
- Head elevation
- CSF drainage
- Sedation
- Mannitol or hypertonic saline
- Hyperventilation
- Hypothermia
- Barbiturates (pentobarbital or propofol)
- Decompressive craniectomy
Glucocorticoids are not used.
