Organ: Thyroid

Description:

Characteristics:

  • Many secondary lymphoid follicles
  • Hürthle cell metaplasia

Hürthle cells are metaplastic follicular cells. They have broad, eosinophilic cytoplasm with atypical nuclei and distinct cell borders. These cells are found in only a small part of the slide.

There is normal thyroid in the periphery of the slide.

Diagnosis: Hashimoto thyroiditis

Risk factors:

  • Young females

Theory:

Nothing special.
