37. Leiomyoma of uterus

From greek.doctor

Organ: Uterus

Description:

We can see a well-circumscribed, encapsulated tumor with an expansile border. The uterine cavity has been compressed. A nodule is seen inside the tumor.

Diagnosis: Leiomyoma of the uterus

Risk factors:

  • Bad diet
  • Genetics

Theory:

A leiomyoma is a benign tumor of smooth muscle. It often occurs in myometrium. The malignant version of this tumor would be a leiomyosarcoma.

The morphology of this tumor is similar to any other benign tumor.

The compressed uterine cavity causes characteristic symptoms, like:

  • Dysmenorrhea
  • Infertility
  • Menorrhagia

The nodule can be either bleeding, hyaline, fibrosis or necrosis due to the tumor. (It’s definitely not clonal evolution or expansion.)
