Organ: Liver

Description:

The liver is yellowish, greyish. The parenchyme is disordered due to the many nodules. The nodules are mostly >5 mm in diameter. The surface is irregular.

Diagnosis: Macronodular cirrhosis

Causes:

  • Most likely viral hepatitis

Theory:

The border between micronodular and macronodular cirrhosis is when the diameter of the nodules crosses 5 mm, although we usually see a mix of both types. Micronodular is most frequently associated with alcoholic hepatitis while macronodular is most frequently associated with viral hepatitis.
